Cowboy Surf Shop

Craig ‘Cowboy’ MacArthur’s shop, starting as Miramar Surf Boards and Cowboy Surf Shop since 1982.

Half Moon Bay · Est. 1971

The story

Cowboy Surf Shop goes back to 1971, when Craig ‘Cowboy’ MacArthur founded Miramar Surf Boards as a showroom for the boards he shaped and glassed. It was Half Moon Bay’s first surf shop.

In 1982 he opened the retail store under the Cowboy Surf Shop name. He also spent years in the surf industry, including working as a Northern California sales rep for Billabong in its early U.S. days.

The shop has been a Northern California fixture since the early ’70s, with boards, wetsuits and gear for the coast around Half Moon Bay.

Hang loose, walk on in

What makes it special: Cowboy Surf Shop sells its own shop-logo hoodies and tees, like the Horseshoe and Skull & Guns designs, in store.

Why buy direct: The shop-logo gear is sold in store, so swing by and support a local shop.
