Filmmaker Billy Martin spent 10 days on Ahe Atoll, a small coral ring in French Polynesia roughly 300 miles northeast of Tahiti. There, the Humbert family has farmed Tahitian pearls off the grid for three generations through Kamoka Pearls. Surfer describes how the farm runs on solar and wind power and rainwater, and uses reef fish to clean the oysters. Martin said afterward that he was reluctant to return to the fast pace of the outside world.
