Costa Rican longboarder Lía Díaz marked her country’s 205th Independence Day on September 15 by perching on the nose in traditional dress. A month later she made history at the Surf City El Salvador ISA World Longboard Championship at El Sunzal, taking bronze behind Alice Lemoigne and Avalon Gall for Costa Rica’s first-ever medal at the event. The result also earned the 22-year-old from Playa Negra a spot at the Lima 2027 Pan American Games.
