Surf Ranch
Kelly Slater Wave Co’s original wave pool in Lemoore, California
The story
Surf Ranch is Kelly Slater Wave Co’s original wave pool, out among barns, horse ranches and farm fields in California’s Central Valley at Lemoore, about 100 miles from the ocean.
Its wave was the first of its kind: a barreling wave about 6 feet tall that runs more than 2,300 feet, giving rides of up to a minute. The wave can be tuned, so surfers of different levels can ride it.
In 2018 it became the first wave pool to host a World Surf League Championship Tour event, the Surf Ranch Pro. The tour came back in 2019, 2021 and 2023. Surf Ranch is not on the 2026 Championship Tour schedule.
On site there is a clubhouse with a locker room, a patio with a hot tub and fire pit looking out on the wave, a room full of boards to borrow (or bring your own), and meals made to order by the chef. You can stay on site in one of 6 Airstreams or 3 lakeside cabins.
How to visit
By reservation only
There is no walk-up surfing and no public online booking. Visits are private group experiences, set up with the Surf Ranch team and booked ahead.
Groups & buyouts
Groups book their own sessions. Each guest, surfing or not, signs up and fills in a waiver through a link the group’s organizer sends before the visit.
Getting there
18556 Jackson Ave, Lemoore, CA 93245. Fresno Yosemite International (FAT) is about 45 minutes away. Uber and Lyft are thin out here, so plan on a car.
