Surfer profiles Elina Naboka, a Ukrainian-born filmmaker and photographer who built a surf-film career in the US without an industry network, after a teacher once told her surfing was too boring to film. She has shot East Coast hurricane swells and brand campaigns. With New Jersey surfer Simon Hetrick she makes the See You Next Time series, whose latest episode, Marketplace, was filmed on used ’80s and ’90s boards bought online. It premiered in Asbury Park, NJ and was accepted into the Scheveningen Surf Film Festival in the Netherlands.
As a woman from Ukraine, she didn't exactly have a built-in network to the surf or creative scenes in the US, but thanks to her relentless drive, she's finding ways to break through.
