Sama Yone (My Way) is a 22-minute documentary, directed and produced by Lisa Coulaud and Josh Fritsch, that follows Senegalese national champion Sidy Camara as he chases a heavy, hollow left breaking over sharp rocks on an undisclosed island, a wave he says reminds him of Pipeline. The film was Camara’s own idea after years of outsiders asking him for footage, and it widens into a portrait of Senegal’s surf community of close to 200 surfers and its spirit of Teranga, or hospitality. It premiered at the Board Culture Exposure festival in Biarritz and is now free to watch online. Camara’s next goal is to qualify for the 2028 Olympics in Los Angeles.

Part wave discovery, part love letter to Dakar, Sama Yone follows national champion Sidy Camara and Senegal's thriving surf scene.
